TALK NUMBERS TO ME...
We've built the show to be scaled up or down depending on the theatre size or budget. As it stands right now, we're working with a minimum of 11 core characters, and a live 5-piece band, with an additional 2 musicians that float throughout the story. There is flexibility to scale up to add in ensemble, swings, dancers and understudies.
WHY STORYTELLER? WHY NOW?
How do you collect your broken pieces and make it something beautiful again?
Everyone experiences pain and heartache, but it's what you do with it that matters... what you turn it into.
IT'S RAW. IT'S VULNERABLE.
It's about music. Healing. Love. Acceptance.
It's about letting people in and asking for forgiveness.
How every single person on this planet deserves to be who they are, without being scared of the consequences.
ALLIE - WHAT INSPIRED STORYTELLER?
My Mama gave me the best advice when I set out on this journey... to simply write about what I know. And I know country music. I know heartache. I know abandonment and rejection.
I wanted our audience to resonate with this story. With the people I've created. With that human feeling of trying to find what it is that matters to us most. And of just how good it feels when we find our people and we're finally accepted, just as we are.
Each character is a part of me. Well... maybe not Guy. But his character forms part of my experience as does each character and their story, their background, their pain, they all share something I've witnessed in one way or another.
Storyteller is a love letter to myself and every other artist out there. To every kid out there who's gay and is scared to come out. To every foster kid (or any kid) that doesn't think they're worthy of love and greatness. And especially to every dead-beat father that abandoned their kid... yeah, you. 'Cause without your heartbreak, I wouldn't have this story. And I wouldn't have found my people.
Storyteller is my way of accepting my past and how it shaped me. Storyteller healed me.
There is peace in the pieces.
Storyteller is my safe place.
It's our cast's safe place.
Hopefully it can be someone else's safe place too.
